Kojonup Caravan Park Accommodation > Kojonup > The Kodja Place
The highlight of a visit to Kojonup is The Kodja Place. The centre immortalises the farm experience, life on "the reserve", the heartfelt stories of early settlers, the aspirations of the young and the community hopes for the future.
Name origin: Aboriginal - meaning 'the place of the kodja'. 'Kodja' is the word for stones which were used to make axes. Visitors can enjoy billy tea and damper made on a fire at a traditional Aboriginal camp-site, complete with lean-to.

Sit on the school bus, drive the farm ute, walk the boards on the snazziest shearing shed you will ever see - you can even check the rain gauge and the farm budget.
Join Aboriginal Noongar tours through the landmarks of Kojonup, and purchase Noongar arts and craft from the Kojonup Visitor Centre.
The Kodja Place is the result of the district’s cultures working in harmony with a single goal.
An architecturally designed, purpose-built rammed earth building houses a multifaceted display of artifacts, stories, interactive displays, exhibits, pictures, and entertaining hands-on devices adjacent to a spectacular Rose Maze.
It tells in a vital, vivid, human and sometimes confronting manner the Kojonup story and the influences, cultural, economic and geographic, that formed the Kojonup of today.
Several areas make up The Kodja Place and its story:
The Kodj Gallery
Yoondi's Mia Mia
The Story Place
The Australian Rose Maze
The effort of hundreds of local volunteers is evident in the design and construction of The Kodja Place. It demonstrates the significance of Noongar and Wadjela cultures in the district, and exists as a graphic illustration of the evolution of a multitude of similar communities across Australia.
The impact of government policies and other cultures on the local Aboriginal way of life is acknowledged while at the same time a forceful demonstration of the reconciliation process is clearly presented.
It provides a focal point for local cross-cultural harmony, and its existence, its activities and its success provide a source of community pride, a community meeting place and a pivotal expression of the cultural makeup of Kojonup.
It shows visitors this expression in an entertaining, colourful and fascinating manner, and invites you to share in the spirit of the people who have made it possible - the people of Kojonup.
The Kojonup Visitor Centre is open for trading 9.00am to 5.00pm, seven days a week, closed Christmas Day.
